Explore the Authentic Beauty of Sardinia: Interview with Bitan Daily Tours

Things to do in Sardinia

Have you ever visited the magical island of Sardinia? In today’s #ExperienceOfTheWeek series, we talk to Matteo, the co-founder of Bitan Daily Tours, offering some of the most authentic experiences in the region of Sardinia. Who are Bitan Daily Tours, what is so special about them, and why you should definitely try one or two of their experiences? Let’s find out together.

Q1: Hi Matteo, how are you doing?

I’m fine, thank you for asking, and you?

Q2: Tell us more about the history of Bitan. How did it all start? Where does the name come from?

Everything started around 2010, my partners and I were working in the tourism industry at the time.

While working for a famous resort we noticed that something was missing in our area and being in touch with many demanding guests, we decided to start a new adventure with Bitan in 2013, following our passion for our land, culture, and history as well.

The name Bitan is the original name of our village. When the Phonecians arrived on this coast, around the VIII century b.C., they called it “NTB” (BTN =Bitan), the Phonecian alphabet hasn’t vowels, and they wrote from left to right as in Arabian. After them, around the III century b.C., the Romans called it ” Bithia,” and around the XIV century, the Spanish called it “Chia,” This name remains nowadays.

Q3: Italy is an amazing destination and I bet there are dozens of things to show to fellow travelers in each region. How many guides do you have in your team? Are you all locals?

Our company works with many partners, we offer guided tours in English, Italian, Portoghese, French, German, Russian. We are all locals.

Q4: Your selection of experiences has no end. What are the most popular tours among travelers who come to you?

We are a young and friendly company, that’s why we have so many partners around this big island, and we can offer many tours. Our best sellers are the Hidden Beaches Jeep and Boat Tours, ATV Experience, and Mountain Jeep Tour; children love going off-road.

Q5: Today many people travel and plan their itineraries on their own. Why would you recommend booking one of your experiences to our travelers?

We don’t sell just excursions, we sell experiences, and for us, the essential is the safety and the memories that our guests will take home. We recommend booking a tour with us so our guests can discover the real Sardinia, we would like to be their Sardinian friends.

Q6: Travel industry is in uncharted waters right now but we all hope travel will rebound soon. What does the situation in Italy look like right now? Are you expecting tourists to come back soon?

The lockdown was terrible for us; in Sardinia, tourism is the leading industry. Fortunately, because of the distance, the chaos was in the north of the mainland, and here on the island, it was under control. We are ready with the covid-19 protection protocol to receive them as soon as possible.

Q7: Last but not least, what is your favorite spot in your region that you’d take your friends to see or experience? Tips from a true local are always worth it 🙂

There are many spots in the Chia area; I could recommend hiking on the Roman road or at the Is Cannoneris reserve around the waterfalls and a walking tour around the beautiful city of Cagliari.
