About Šibenik

On Croatia’s Mediterranean coast, you will find one of Croatia’s most beautiful cities, Šibenik. Some people refer to Šibenik as a medieval city. Once you observe the architecture and design of the city, you find that it has no links to the Roman Empire. It is also the oldest Slovenian City in the Adriatic. After capturing the city of Šibenik, the Venetians influenced most of its arts and culture. You find this evident when you visit the Holy Jakob Cathedral. It is an architectural masterpiece and one of the most important renaissance buildings in Dalmatia.

This colossal structure is now one of the most sacred heritage sites that depict the transition from gothic to renaissance design. Next to the cathedral is the Venetian City Loggia. The museums inside the Šibenik City have several archeological finds that date back to the Neolithic era. These artifacts from millions of years back are truly something with emphatic historical significance.

Šibenik is an extending city of terraces, steep slopes, and a maze of narrow mystical streets that are exuberant and magical. The medieval atmosphere of the city manages to take you back into time. During Venetian rule, Šibenik was arguably the center of both art and culture in the country, and you find the hint of that to this day.
