This tour takes you to:
- Brantwood the beautiful home of John Ruskin, a fascinating character and one of history's great polymaths who went on to change the world in so many different ways. He was also the champion of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the catalyst for the development of the Arts & Craft Movement worldwide.
- Ruskin Museum to explore John Ruskin's influence on the Lake District Arts & Crafts Movement and see unique examples of Ruskin Lace and Linen as well as the distinctive work of the Keswick School of Industrial Arts.
- Staveley village church, to see an outstanding pre-Raphaelite stained-glass window made by Morris and Co. to designs of Sir Edward Burne-Jones in 1878. Musical angels and starry skies will take your breath away.
- Troutbeck, a traditional Lake District village whose church has unique stained glass by the Pre-Raphaelite artists Sir Edward Burne-Jones, Ford Maddox Brown and William Morris. There are clues in the glass explaining why these world-famous artists created such outstanding windows in this Lake District idyll.
- Blackwell, the Arts & Crafts House. A unique opportunity to see an outstanding example of an Arts & Crafts house designed by M.H. Baillie Scott with exquisite and enchanting interior decoration by master craftsmen including wallpaper by Shand Kydd and W. Dennington, furniture and carvings by Simpsons of Kendal and ceramics by William de Morgan. The gardens, with spectacular views over lake Windermere to the fells
beyond were designed by the hugely successful and sought-after Arts & Crafts landscape architect, Thomas Hayton Mawson.
