Continue to the archaeological Phoenician site of the famous Chellah Kasbah and drive on a winding road overlooking the Bou Regreg to the Hassan Tower, an architectural remnant of the Almohad Dynasty and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V. Your guide escorts you on a walk around the picturesque walls of the Oudayas Kasbah, built in the 12th century to protect the city. Visit Bab Oudaya, a monumental gate of Almohad military architecture, and see Moulay Ismaïl’s palace that exhibits Moroccan art. After a refreshment stop at a seaside local cafe with views of the Medina, learn more about the city's history and admire beautiful domes, minarets, wide avenues and green spaces. Before moving to the Medina, relax in the Moorish-style Andalusian Gardens and visit the labyrinth of souks and artisan shops, including the Place Souk el-Ghezel (the Wool Market Square), where prisoners were once sold as slaves. Admire ornamental motifs on residential doors, walk along the famed Rue des Consuls where foreign consuls once lived, and browse shops selling clothes, shoes, food and crafts. South of Rue Souk, visit the Mellah, the former Jewish quarter.
