Presentation of the Toro Family and historical tale.
Visit to the distillery retracing the various production phases of the Centerba Toro
Tasting of liqueurs with sensory and organoleptic analysis.
The Toro family has rooted its bicentennial activity in Tocco da Casauria, creating an indissoluble bond with those intimate, welcoming green places.
It was 1817 when the pharmacist and apothecary Beniamino Toro senior created the Centerba Toro, a fine liqueur born from the alchemy of wild and spontaneous herbs, selected and harvested by expert hands on the slopes of the Abruzzo mountains Maiella Madre and Morrone.
The Centerba – whose name derives from "Centum Herbora" or, in the dialect "Cianterba" – is produced through the slow natural infusion in particular containers and in environments free of humidity and temperature changes, without added sugar or flavoring. The liqueur obtained shows a characteristic green color with a high alcohol content, and refined aromatic aromas, among which the mind predominates.
A strong and gentle product, worthy of a good Abruzzese. Appreciated in principle by pilgrims and shepherds, it later became known as a real medicine: the Centerba Toro was in fact used for its curative characteristics in the Kingdom of Naples during the cholera epidemic in 1884, with wagons of Centerba Toro that departed every day from Tocco da Casauria towards the Neapolitan capital.
In 1972 Roberto Toro and his son Enrico of F.lli Toro Specialità Centerba founded Enrico Toro dc, a modern company able to face new market challenges and maintain the same recipe, to which they gave a new "interpretation": a Centerba with a different stamp.
In 1998 the F.lli Toro closed the old factory and the products were bottled and distributed under license from Enrico Toro d.c.
Today it is an artisan product boasting the Abruzzo liqueur tradition, appreciated throughout the world. The secret formula is jealously guarded and handed down from father to son for generations: a recipe that evokes the charm of places, expressing the atmosphere of this land in the most authentic way.
