o Ancient ramparts & monumental gates of “Little Marrakech”
o Admire the exotic gardens of Taroudant
o Panoramic photo of Goats on The Tree
Taroudant (also spelled Tarouaddant) is sometimes called ‘Little Marrakesh’, but that description doesn’t do the Souss Valley trading center justice. Hidden by magnificent red-mud walls, and with the snowcapped peaks of the High Atlas beckoning beyond, Taroudant’s souks and squares have a healthy sprinkling of Moroccan mystique. Yet it is also a practical place, a market town where Berbers trade the produce of the rich and fertile Oued Souss plain.
Leaving Agadir behind, drive through savanna-like, irrigated landscapes and head to Taroudant, often referred to as the pearl of Sous Valley. Along the way we will stop to spot the famous Goats climbing the argan trees. Goats in Morocco only climb one particular type of tree, the Argan Tree that can only be found in the middle of Morocco around the Atlas Mountains. Continue your journey to Taroudant; one of the most elegant towns in Morocco. Its position at the heart of the fertile Souss valley has always given it a commercial and political importance, and the Saadian Dinastybriefly made it their capital in the sixteenth century before moving on to Marrakesh . Follow your guide as you pass by the red-walled, 11th-century ramparts and 5 monumental gates. As you learn about the city's intriguing history, meander through the maze of narrow streets that take you to the busy square of Place Assarag, right in the heart of the city. Just off the main square you will find the souks along the paths. For those that are not as experienced in haggling or shopping in Morocco generally, you will find the souks and shop owners here less intrusive and overwhelming than the big cities. Enjoy your refreshment in Jnane Soussia café.
